Shopping in Singapore

shopper's paradise

Shopper's paradise is what aptly describes Singapore. And rightly so... From discount stores to expensive stores, there is a variety of shops to choose from.

One unique thing one would notice about Singapore is the discount sales and promotions going on throughout the year. So, no matter what time of the year you come to Singaopore, you can be sure to find a deal that fits your budget.

Basic info for Shoppers

  • Most shopping stores and shops are open dailyfrom 10 am till 9 pm. Some of the stores open until 10 pm. Mustafa Centre in Little India is the only department store in Singapore that is open 24 hours a day, everyday!
  • Almost all stores accept major international credit and charge cards. There is no surcharge on making payments by credit card.
  • All department stores and smaller retail shops provide either cash slips or receipts upon purchase.
  • Larger shops and department stores will exchange goods if they are returned in good, original condition. However, returns are usually accepted only within a specified number of days (usually three) from the purchase date, and upon presentation of the receipt. Smaller shops may not be so accommodating, so always check goods carefully as well as the shop’s return policy before making a purchase.
  • A 5% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is levied in Singapore. Foreign visitors may claim back the GST paid on purchases. GST can be claimed at the Changi airport at the time of departure.
